Comedy and other shows are usually setup at an indoor venue under controlled light, and have a theatrical feel to them. Typically the crowd is seated, attentive and discerning. Big Beat have provided technical services to many such shows, including 99% Zulu, Kevin Bloody Wilson (from Australia), Girls Behaving Badly, The Queen Show (feat. Joseph Clark), Michael Naiker, Barry Hilton, The Great Pretender Show, Castle Comedy Show, the 70's show (Maritzburg College) amongst others. These shows demand precise timing for lighting and sound cues. Obviously sound and visuals play a very big part here to support the performer. Big screens also allow larger audiences to feel closer to the action. Comedians in particular are extreemly demanding on the sound system, and are know to bellow or blow into the microphone to achieve booming sounds like jet engines etc. It is often in situations like this that systems do not cope. We at Big Beat always ensure the sound rig has ample "headroom" and compression to deal with these peaks in sound.
